Feeling the motion sickness? I am. This is a wilder ride than I’ve been on in a while, but I’m right here alongside you. I keep a large portion of my net worth invested in the Mainsail Equity Model. I don’t invest in it out of solidarity; I’ve been a blue-chip growth stock investor for decades, and it has served me well. I maintain this model for my own use, regardless of my line of work. But my success in this model is what led me to this line of work. I know how to select suitable investments, and I can help others do the same. I know how to ride out dizzying market turbulence, and I can help others do the same. I know how to stay the course when people are jumping ship, and I continue to help others do the same.
I’ve spoken to other colleagues in the industry whose clients have exited the market in recent days. It breaks my heart. I care deeply about the outcomes of my clients’ investment portfolios, and hearing of the exit of other investors at the worst time is devastating to me. I suppose it’s difficult to predict how you will react in the moment, but then again, we’ve been through moments just like this before. 2020 was not that long ago.
I suppose if my clients were comfortable navigating this confidently on their own, they wouldn’t hire my help. Because they’ve come to me for help, I’ll do everything I can to keep my clients focused on the horizon as we ride out this storm together. I’ve ridden out many storms, and as each storm becomes written into history, we become better sailors. If you’re a seasoned investor who has grown tired of weathering market storms, my best advice is to make a decision during a calm point in the market, not during a time of elevated stress. If you don’t wish to stomach turbulence any longer, that’s your choice, but make that choice in a time of peace and mental clarity. As for me, when the storm subsides, I’ll be carrying the recent treasures we bought in the dip to shore and selling them to restore Mainsail’s cash position, adjusting our sails, and continuing on our journey.
Northshore Wealth Management’s Mainsail Equity Model seeks growth opportunities primarily in domestic blue-chip growth stocks that meet strict criteria while maintaining a cash position to deploy at opportune times. While I recognize this has been a difficult season, and I won’t dismiss the pain we’ve all felt, if I’m looking at this pragmatically, it has been an extraordinarily opportune time to buy. I remain optimistic in my outlook.
